The public transport situation here in Delhi these days is pretty grim. After a string of deaths (360+ so far this year) due to speeding, racing, or simply reckless driving, the Delhi government has banned all blueline buses (the main bus system in the capital) from the road until they pass an inspection and have speed governors installed which limit their speed to 40 kilometers per hour (that’s just 24mph!).
Needless to say, banning the main bus system in a city of 16 million has caused some problems, the most obvious is that instead of buses speeding recklessly, the few that are running are massively overcrowded and are carrying people on the bumpers and roofs!
Somehow this doesn’t seem to make me feel any safer… or make it any easier to get around. But thankfully there are always the ever present rickshaws, bicycles, elephants, and bullock carts to rely on. It sure feels good to be back in Delhi.
Hello! We are the Brays. And we love Muslims.
OK, that Indian traffic video is SO TRUE!!! I am embracing the chaos from here… I feel good inside knowing that I have learned to drive in any situation… sweet.
