Photos from the Coup D’Etat – Day 1

Dan with Bangkok Post.JPGWe finally have a pictures online taken around the city today as we drove around looking for a house to rent.

Check out the images on our photo page.

Things have been surprisingly quiet. No protests of any kind. However, seeing that group gatherings of more than 5 persons have been banned, what can be expected? Technically our YWAM prayer time this morning may have been in violation of that, but I assume the order applies to public places.

Military leaders have also cut off access to cable TV and have removed all local programming from television stations – replaced with photos of the King and Queen accompanied by some Thai “feel good” music.

There’s definitely a bit of anxiousness in the air as people wait to see what will happen in the coming days. Much could depend on whether or not supporters of deposed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will submit to the coup leader’s ideas or plan street demonstrations (as happened during the last coup in 1991).

Keep us in mind as we try to figure out what is happening each day and plan accordingly. Whatever happens, we’re still here and will be posting as often as possible with updates.

That’s it for now. -Dan
