This afternoon I was picking Asia up from school and she was telling me about her day. It turns out that she was assigned a new “buddy” – that is, a new friend in her class who will sit next to her and translate for her is she doesn’t understand her teacher’s Thai instructions.
So I asked Asia who her new buddy was. She said, “Oh, you saw her before”.
“Really” I asked. I had no idea when or where. “Which one is she?”
Asia replied (totally serious here), “Well, she’s got the dark black hair”.
Oh… THAT ONE?
After I laughed for a while I started thinking (a rarity for me): Asia has gotten so used to her friends faces that she can describe her friends with such vague portrayals. Heck, to me, all of her Thai classmates still look exactly alike.
