Over the weekend, the New York Times published an article (Unhappy Meals, may require subscription) that claims the ideal human diet basically boils down to one short mantra:
Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.
These people have obviously never been to Thailand. Plants? Thais plant them in the ground. Meat? Pork fat? Lots of deep fried goodness? That’s the classic Thai diet.
The best thing is, Thai people are generally very slim and healthy – even despite the ultra high carb diets that come from eating rice and noodles with each meal and khanom (sweet bread, snacks) throughout the day. And there’s not a lot of diet books on sale at the bookstores here, either. Oh no. And if there was one for sale, it might be titled something like this:
Eat food. Whatever you want. Mainly fried.
