Thai New Year and my first Thai sentence

Eliyas with water gunSo, if you received our recent email update, you know that we just celebrated the Thai New Year here. This was no ordinary New Year deal. It was a nationwide water fight. Some people were cruising the streets at 3 mph throwing water out of the backs of their pickup trucks; others lined the road throwing buckets of ice water on passing motorists. It was totally impossible to go anywhere without getting completely soaked for  whole week!

It’s was really fun. As we said in our email news update, it may sound cruel to you readers, but everybody else was doing it, so I guess that made it okay. :-]  Could you imagine something like this taking place in the States?  Never.  No grown man would ever engage in such a childish, wasteful activity.  Perhaps that’s why I liked it so much.
I also picked up my first Thai sentence, “Nam keang, mot leao” which basically means “We’re out of ice!” – a helpful sentence to know in a nation as hot as Thailand is.
